As our dear leader Robbie has said previously, finding mistakes in the Guardian is like finding a rosary on the Pope, but this one nearly burst my irony gland.
From a piece in the Media pullout entitled In praise of the subeditor:
"Newspapers have often found it difficulty to recruit subeditors over the last few years"Whoop.

There should also have been a hyphen in sub-editors.
The reason papers find it hard to recruit is because the pay is lousy - subbing is a highly skilled job, performed under enormous pressure. Until the press recognises that skill deserves proper reward, it will remain hard to recruit talent.
Must be why I'm a freelance...
I think the hyphen thing's a point of house style, choosing to run the words together instead of hyphenate (is that a word?) them.
Yeah, Geordie, that's about right. I hypenate a lot of stuff when I'm copy-editing, but the magazine that comes to mind for getting rid of hyphens entirely is Edge. They don't hypenate everything. Eventually hyphens will vanish, I think. To-day becoming today, and etc and indeed so forth.
Have you heard of David Crystal? He's written a book called
